You wake up and realize that you are in St. Martha Manor. You look around and think about why you are here, what lead you here and how you ended up in this bed. I guess age caught up.

Slowly, you begin to fade out of reality and into a different dimensional realm that is in your head, the drugs start to kick in and you take yourself out of the room. You end up in a land of meadows in the midst of lush green forests and you wander for many timeless hours.

This world seems better than the one you were in before

The air seems to be a thick fog of smoke, but a good kind of smoke, the one that you always waited for at the end of the day.

Unfortunately, this world only lasts so long and you end up back in the room you woke up in.

The reality kicks in and you stare at the room, waiting for the drugs to kick in, something to happen, whatever it may be. Time goes by slowly and you look around the room with the bleak decorations and horrid design thinking to yourself, life could have been different.

The nurse walks in and tells you that its time for you to go out to the square for a morning walk. You think about the meadow you were just in and decide to walk outside, hoping for something different. When you get outside you are bathed in a burst of sunlight and the world feels alive.

You notice the address on the wall, 4621 and think about all the different number of your past life, the life before your children locked you away, the life before your wife died, the life before anything and everything was as it is.

The bright trees and all the people walking by remind you of the times you rode the bus and waited to get on just to observe people and the different things they did. It was nice as an old man because people treated you different than when you were younger.

Oh the world in Chicago, the seasons and the memories of when you would walk down to the park for your morning solitude as the tress were blossoming. The time passed and the people changed, slowly they would eye you down as you walked by and watch you glide past them with no care in the world. The memories began to fade and your children began calling more than usual. Soon you ended up in their house and now here.

When it was different, when she was life, you could understand the world and understood each other. The fabrics of reality broke when she died and much like the walls of this room, the world began to crumble.

You think to yourself what a world it was when people loved you just the same as they loved themselves.

But, In the end when it comes down to it people will always choose themselves.

Your kids did when they locked you away in St. Martha Manor.
